Lakes at Litchfield, Myrtle Beach, SC

The Problem: This assisted-living facility had a 3/4 acre pond that was the focal point of the community. However, it had a very severe infestation of filamentous algae covering at least 50% of the pond's surface. The algae was unsightly, interfered with fishing by the residents, and was the source of unpleasant odors, particularly in the evenings.

The Solution: The Lake Doctors suggested that they install a 1 HP Display Fountain (link to LD10003T) to help improve water quality followed by monthly treatments with Cutrine-Plus Algaecide (link) for control of the severe algae. It was also suggested that Aquashade Pond Dye(link) be added to the pond to not only improve the water color but to also shade out sunlight and reduce regrowth of algae.
The Results: After several treatments for control of algae, the pond is nearly algae-free. The odors have gone away and residents are able to fish again without pulling in large mats of green slimy algae. The Aquashade has given the pond a beautiful blue appearance and is helping prevent regrowth of the algae. The customer is very pleased with the results and has given several recommendations for additional business.

Daybreak Woods, Jacksonville, FL

The Problem: A new Lake Doctors account with a shallow pond had a severe infestation of cattails that had taken over the pond. The homeowners were desperate to have the cattails gone and the pond restored and were putting pressure on the developer.

The Solution: First, the Lake Doctors sprayed the cattails with a solution of Rodeo and Cide-Kick. This environmentally-safe systemic herbicide killed the cattails by being absorbed into the plants and translocated to the roots. Once the cattails were dead, which took about 30 days, The Lake Doctors staff cut and removed the cattails with special weed cutters and rakes.
The Results: Within two months, the pond was quickly restored to it's natural beauty, which increased property values and aesthetics. The developer was very happy as it relieved pressure on him and the pond no longer detracked from potential sales. The pond is now on a monthly Lake Doctors Water Management Program

St. Augustine/ Woodbridge at the Lake Apartments, Jacksonville, FL.

The Problem: In the summer of 2004, the apartment communities considered installing a decorative fountain in the 20 acre lake to enhance the aesthetics. However, at that time, a noxious undesirable underwater weed called hydrilla literally took over the lake in a matter of weeks. The manager called The Lake Doctors Jacksonville office asking for help. The apartments were being impacted financially since the residents pay a premium price for the lake units and a fountain could not be run without clogging with hydrilla.

The Solution: The Lake Doctors recommended a long term water management program for this lake to effectively control the aggressive and difficult-to-control hydrilla. Applications of Sonar AS Aquatic Herbicide were carried out. Additionally, The Lake Doctors assisted the customer through all phases of State Permitting for stocking of 200 sterile weed-eating Triploid Grass Carp.
The Results: Within 90 to 120 days, the weeds had responded well to the applications of Sonar AS and only small patches of dying weeds were visible in a few locations. A recent inspection in January 2005 revealed that over 90% of the hydrilla has been controlled. Stocking of the 200 Triploid Grass Carp to prevent regrowth is planned for Spring 2005. The customer can now run a fountain without clogging and the appearance of the lake has improved drastically. The customer is very pleased with the results and has referred The Lake Doctors to several other properties.

Jefferson Country Club - Columbus, Ohio

The Problem: Jefferson CC had several shallow ponds with severe algae and chara growth due to fertilizer runoff from the fairways. The problem was persistent and difficult to control for the golf course personnel.

The Solution: The Lake Doctors offered Jefferson Country Club a monthly maintenance program aimed at controlling the algae, underwater weeds and floating weeds, yet preserving and nurturing beneficial shoreline weeds.
The Results: By means of regular monthly and bi-monthly treatments with Cutrine-Plus Granular, Cutrine Plus and copper sulfate, plus Blue Lagoon Pond Dye, the algae and chara problems have been controlled while the beneficial shoreline weeds have nurtured and preserved.
